Approve with MitID – when you use a phone or tablet where the app is also installed

When you use the same phone or tablet where your app is installed for logging on, it is now easier to approve. The MitID app will automatically open at the press of a button.

When you need to approve with MitID and you are using the same phone or tablet that you have your app installed on, the approval process has become easier. You will see a new button, “Open MitID app”, which will automatically take you to the MitID app when you press it. You can then swipe and approve as usual.

How to approve with the MitID app

  • Go to the page where you want to log on.
  • Enter your MitID user ID. Press Continue.
  • Press the blue button Open MitID app.
  • You are now automatically sent to the MitID app.
  • Swipe to approve. Always remember to read what you are approving, to ensure that it matches what you want to do.
  • Press Finish to go back to the page where you were logging on. If you are not automatically returned to the page, you must navigate there yourself, e.g., by pressing the arrow at the top left of the screen.

Having trouble approving?

Have you picked the wrong button when pressing 'Open MitID app' and 'Approve on another device'?

  • If you see the screen with the blue button 'Open MitID app', but do not press it, and instead open the MitID app manually, nothing happens. You will get a message in the MitID app telling you to go back and press the 'Open MitID app' button. Afterwards, you will automatically be sent to the MitID app, where you can swipe and approve.
  • If you press the white button 'Approve on another device', but actually wanted to press the blue button 'Open MitID app', you just need to cancel the approval by pressing the X in the top corner of the screen. Then press the blue 'Open MitID app' button.

Unable to approve?

  • If you are trying to approve in a browser inside an app, you will receive a message telling you it is not possible. Instead, use the browser that is installed on your phone or tablet – such as Safari or Google Chrome. If you want to open a link from an app, but it opens inside the app, use the settings in the app’s browser (usually three dots at the top of the screen) and ask it to open the link in a browser.
  • If you try to approve with MitID with a browser in incognito mode, you will receive a message telling you it is not possible. Instead, use a browser that is not in incognito mode, or approve with the MitID code display.

Is the button 'Open MitID app' not shown?

  • If you find pages where the “Open MitID app” button is not shown, it is likely caused by the way the page implements MitID. Instead, log on using a computer or a tablet with a larger screen.

No approval shows up in the MitID app?

  • If no approval shows up in the MitID app, try entering your user ID again on the page.

Questions

  • Why are you not always automatically sent back to where you are logging on, after you approved with the MitID app on the phone?

It is not controlled by MitID, but by the companies making the browsers, such as Google or Apple. When using Google Chrome, you are automatically sent back. Apple’s systems (iOS/iPadOS and Safari) require you to manually go back – by pressing a small arrow in the top left corner of the screen.

  • Why does it look different during card payments?

When approving online card payments, you still need to open the MitID app manually. This is because the card payment system already has a series of other security measures built into it. The MitID app will still guide you and tell you how to approve.
