Forgotten/change password

You need to use a password every time you approve with MitID if you have a MitID code display, code reader, or chip. If you’ve forgotten your password, your password has been blocked, or if you want to change it, you’ll need to create a new one.

Choose how you want to change the password:

1) Change your password on MitID.dk

You can change your password on your profile page when you are logged in at MitID.dk.

Note that you can log in to MitID.dk without using a password if you have the MitID app.

Step by step guide

  1. Log in to MitID.dk, for example, with the MitID app.
  2. Find the Password field and tap Edit password.
  3. You must now request access to change your password. For security reasons, you need to wait 24 hours before you can change your password. Tap Request access.
  4. Wait 24 hours. You will receive a notification via SMS or email. when you can change your password. 

  5. After 24 hours have passed, log in to MitID.dk again.
  6. Find the Password field and tap Edit password.
  7. Create your new password.
  8. Repeat your new password and tap Continue.
  9. Your password has now been changed.

2) Change password with help from MitID Support

MitID Support can help you change your password. MitID Support can send you an activation code, which you then use to create a new password.

Important to know

  • You need to call MitID Support to get help; you cannot contact them in writing. Call MitID Support at +45 33 98 00 10

  • When you speak with MitID Support, you must identify yourself. You will be asked to provide either your passport or driver’s license number (valid Danish or Greenlandic driver’s license or passport) and then answer a series of questions based on your information in the CPR register. If you cannot answer enough questions, MitID Support will not be able to assist you.

Step by step guide

  1. When you have received an activation code from MitID Support, click here.
  2. Enter your user ID and tap Next.
  3. Enter the activation code you received from MitID Support and tap Next.
  4. Create your new password. 
  5. Repeat your new password and tap Continue.
  6. Your password has now been changed.

3) Change your password at Citizen Service Centre

 At Citizen Service Centre (Borgerservice), you can get help changing your password.

  • Remember to book an appointment at Citizen Service Centre. This is usually necessary.
  • When you arrive at Citizen Service Centre, you must be able to identify yourself with valid identification, such as a passport or driver’s license.
