Unable to use MitID

MitID can be used by many different individuals who may otherwise have difficulty using digital tools due to one or more physical disabilities. With the MitID app, MitID code display, MitID audio code reader and MitID chip, MitID can accommodate a wide range of accessibility challenges, including mobility and visual impairments.

However, there are a few cases, such as individuals with multiple disabilities, who unfortunately will not be able to use MitID.

This applies to individuals who:

  • Have no arm mobility combined with an inability to use their voice.
  • Cannot speak commands in English, German, Spanish, etc. Voice control for the MitID app is not yet available in Danish on Android and iOS.

MitID is strictly personal, and it must be used by the individual themselves. The digital ID must not be used on behalf of others.

Public authorities in Denmark are obligated to provide citizens without a MitID access to all public services. So even though many public services now require you to log in with MitID, you can always request access to the same service without using MitID by contacting a public authority, for example, using a paper form.

If you have someone in your network whom you trust and who is willing to assist you, you can grant them power of attorney. With power of attorney, you give the chosen person permission to act on your behalf. They log in as themselves and not as you. This means that it will be visible what actions they have taken on your behalf.

If you need assistance from others, an alternative option could be to utilize powers of attorney. There are different powers of attorney for different self-service solutions.

In the private sector, you should contact each individual company to inquire about the options for accessing their self-service solutions without MitID and to ask about the possibility of granting power of attorney.

For example, contact your bank to find out how you can be a customer without having MitID.
