Passport/ID card requirements for MitID app

You can use your passport or international ID card in the MitID app to get MitID, or to use other functions of the app.

Due to the importance of security and ensuring that MitID is issued to the correct person, there are specific requirements for the passports/ID cards that can be used for identity verification in the MitID solution.

Be sure, that your passport/ID card has a chip

Your passport/ID card must have a chip to be used for creating MitID. Your passport/ID card must have this symbol on the front.
The symbol depicts a square with a ring in the center.
The symbol indicates that your passport/ID card contains a hidden chip that can be scanned by the MitID app - to confirm your identity.

Your passport/ID card must be valid

Verify, that your passport/ID card hasn't expired.

Your passport/ID card must be from a UN member state

Most passports/ID cards meet the security requirements, but some do not and therefore cannot be used for identity verification in MitID. Check the list below to see if your passport/ID card meets the requirements and can be scanned by the MitID app.
