Information for the bereaved after a death

When you pass away, your MitID is automatically blocked when the death is registered in the CPR. This also means that your MitID app, code display, audio code reader or chip will no longer be active and can no longer be used.

It is not possible to take over or continue the deceased’s MitID. Therefore, as the bereaved, you do not need to take further action. If the deceased had a MitID code display, audio code reader or chip, they can be safely disposed of. The MitID app can also be safely deleted from the deceased’s mobile or tablet.

As the bereaved, you may need access to the deceased’s digital services, such as bank accounts, insurance or public documents. The Courts of Denmark can assist you in gaining access to relevant information. Read more on borger.dk: When life ends
