Check your passport/foreign ID card

You can use your passport/foreign ID card to create a MitID on the MitID app, although they must meet the minimum requirements. This is due to safety.

  • Your passport/foreign ID card must be valid. Make sure that it has not expired.
  • Your Passport/foreign ID card must have a chip. You can see if your passport/foreign ID card have a chip, by looking for a square symbol with a circle and a line through it on the front (see below). The chip will be read by the app in order to confirm your identity.
  • Please note that not all passports/foreign ID cards can be used to create a MitID with the app. Check this site to see if your passport/foreign ID card can be used.

If you want MitID but do not have a Danish CPR number

  • If you do not have a Danish CPR number, you must acquire a ‘P-code’. A P-code is an 8-digit code, that you must use when confirming your identity with a foreign passport/ID card.
  • Since the P-code will be used in the MitID app, it is recommended that you acquire it beforehand.
  • Please note that several places do not accept a MitID created with a P-code, since they require a CPR number.
