Guide: Cannot get the passport and face scan to work?

  1. Watch the short video in the app to show you what to do
  2. Open the passport and find the page with your passport photo
  3. Find the code with your passport information – you can find it at the bottom of the passport; it begins with ‘P’
  4. Press the button Scan the code in the MitID app
  5. You may give the phone permission to use the camera if needed
  6. Turn your phone horizontally
  7. Navigate your phone until the code from the passport is in the bottom field. There should be a gap of about 12 cm
  8. Hold the phone still when the arrows on the screen align with the passport's code
  9. When the code is scanned, the phone will vibrate, and you will see a tick mark

  1. Watch the short video in the app that shows you what to do
  2. Place your passport face up on a flat surface
  3. If your phone has a cover, remove it
  4. Place the top of your phone halfway down the front of the passport. Now you are ready to read the passport chip.
  5. Press the Read chip button in the MitID app and start scanning
  6. Hold the phone still for a few seconds while the chip is being read
  7. The reading is complete when the phone vibrates and shows a tick

Tip: If you don't see circles and text that the scan is in progress.
Try moving the phone around. This might help the phone capture the chip again.

NOTE! In the case of any error messages, the MitID app has to be closed and restarted, and then you can try again.

  1. Watch the short video in the app that shows you what to do
  2. Press Scan your face
  3. Press Next
  4. Hold your phone up in front of your face so your face fits into the frame (to make sure it's you who are using your passport)
  5. Pres the I'm ready button once you have placed your face in the frame. Follow the instructions on the screen. It may take several attempts to scan the face correctly.
  6. The scanning is complete when you see the text 'Verifying' and proceed to the step overview.

Tip: If you can't press the 'I'm ready' button.
Try moving further away or closer to the blue frame until the 'I'm ready' button turns blue. The on-screen instructions will guide you on what to do.

Tip: If you can't scan your face, try:

  • Go somewhere else to get better lighting on your face
  • Remove any glasses or other items on your face
