How to activate your MitID chip
When you receive your MitID chip, it must be activated before it can be used.
You can activate your MitID chip in two ways:
- With your passport/foreign ID card in the MitID app
- By visiting a Citizen Service Centre (Borgerservice)Med dit pas/udenlandske ID-kort i MitID appen.
1) Activate your MitID chip in the MitID app with your passport/foreign ID card
- Download the MitID app from the Danish Agency for Digital Government in the Apple App Store or Google Play, if you don’t already have it.
- Open the MitID app and tap the menu at the top of the screen.
- Select Activate.
- Tap Activate your MitID and then Get started.
- Choose Passport/ID card.
- Accept the Terms and Conditions and read the Privacy Policy.
- You must now confirm your identity using your passport/ID card. You will go through the following steps: 1) Scan the passport/ID card code, 2) Read the passport/ID card chip and 3) Scan your face. Read here how to scan your passport/ID card and face.
- When you reach the step where you choose what to activate/order, select MitID chip.
- You will now see the text 'Do you have a chip?' Tap Yes, activate. The activation will continue on MitID.dk. You will be automatically taken there.
- Create a password and repeat it. You will need to use the password every time you log in or authenticate with your MitID chip.
- You must now connect your MitID chip to activate it. You can connect it via contactless connection (NFC) or Bluetooth. If you want to connect via Bluetooth, you must first pair your MitID chip with your phone before you can continue to the next step.
- Press Next and hold your MitID chip up to your phone.
- Then enter the 6-digit one-time code displayed when you press the button on your MitID chip.
- Then press your MitID chip's button to complete the activation. The activation is complete when it says 'Activation completed'.

2) Activate your MitID chip at Citizen Service Centre
If you, for example, do not have a passport/foreign ID card or need assistance, you can have your MitID chip activated at a Citizen Service Centre (Borgerservice).
- Remember to book an appointment. It is usually required.
- When you arrive, you must be able to identify yourself with valid ID, such as a passport or driver’s license.
