You have the option of reactivating the MitID app with your passport. You can do this if you have entered the wrong PIN code for the MitID app too many times – or if e.g., you have forgotten your PIN code for the app.

Forgotten or incorrectly entered PIN code?
If you have entered your PIN code for your MitID app incorrectly too many times, your app will be temporarily blocked. You can reactivate your blocked app by verifying who you are e.g., by scanning your passport/ID card and face with the MitID app. You can then create a new PIN code so that your can use your app again. The same applies if you have forgotten your PIN code.

Check that your phone is updated:

Your phone must be able to scan a chip. Make sure that the phone you are using is updated. Read more about the technical requirements to your phone on MitID.dk/technical-requirements

  1. Open the MitID app - and press the icon in the top left corner to open the menu.
  2. Press Forgot PIN code in the menu.
  3. Press Use passport on the screen 'How do you want to change your PIN?'
  4. Accept Terms and Conditions - and read the Privacy Policy if you want.
  5. Confirm your identity with your passport/ID card by 1) scanning the code in the passport/ID card 2) scanning the passport/ID card chip and 3) scanning your face (to compare with your photo in your passport/ID card).
  6. Then choose a new PIN code - and you can now use the MitID app again.

A foreign passport/ID card and no Danish CPR number?
Do you have a foreign passport/ID card – and do you not have a Danish CPR number? Then you need a P-code before you use the MitID app and your passport/ID card to reactivate your app.

See how to get a P-code. You can use a P-code up to three times, so if you already have a P-code, you might be able to use it again. Follow the steps as described above.

Requirements for your phone when you reactivate the MitID app with your passport/ID card
Your phone must be able to scan a chip. Please note that not all tablets/iPads can scan.

If you cannot log into MitID.dk, MitID Support can send you a temporary PIN code by SMS. But first you need to identify yourself on the phone. You will need to inform either your passport number or driving license number (valid Danish or Greenlandic driving license or passport) and then answer a series of questions based on your details in the CPR register.

If you cannot answer enough questions, MitID Support cannot send you a temporary PIN code and you will have to go to Citizens Service Centre for help in creating a new PIN code instead.

If you have changed your phone number
Please note that if your phone number has been registered or changed on MitID.dk within the last 5 days, MitID Support cannot send you a temporary PIN code and you will need to go to Citizens Service Centre instead for help to create a new PIN code.
