MitID authenticator is blocked

A MitID authenticator (MitID app on your phone, code display, code reader or chip) can be temporarily blocked due to safety concerns. If you e.g. enter the wrong PIN code too many times, your app will be temporarily blocked for a short period. You can contact MitID Support or the Citizen Service, if you need assistance to unblock the app.

Do you suspect abuse

If you know about or suspect that your MitID is being abused, you must block your MitID temporarily. If you have lost your MitID authenticator (MitID app on your phone, code display, code reader or chip), and you do see any evidence of abuse, then you only have to block the individual unit.

MitID chip

If you MitID chip is permanently blocked, you will be able to use the physical chip again and add it as a new MitID authenticator.

The explanation is that as you add a new MitID chip, a security element is created in the MitID chip with a corresponding element in the MitID solution. If your MitID chip is permanently blocked, then the security element in the MitID solution is deleted. When the same MitID chip is added again, then a new security element is created, thus enabling the physical MitID chip to be reused.
